Arsenal’s TOP four January transfer attacking TARGETS.

Arsenal’s TOP four January transfer attacking TARGETS.

The North London club are yet to fill the huge gap left by the departure of Dutch striker robin Van Persie with the current striking options of Olivier Giroud, Lukas Podolski, Theo Walcott and Gervinho blowing hot and cold.

The Gunners have been heavily linked to the following strikers as Wenger seeks to bolster his attacking options in the January transfer window.

1. Adrian Lopez (Athletico Madrid)

Atletico Madrid striker Adrian Lopez has been on the Gunners radar for a number of months and  it seems that Arsenal are ready to bid for the 24 year old and given that the Vicente Calderon side are managing just fine without the former Deportivo La Coruna making too much of an impression this season, Diego Simeone’s side sitting in second spot in La Liga this term.

With Radamel Falcao scoring regularly there is perhaps scope for a move to Arsenal as Atletico Madrid have been stuck in contract talks with Lopez, without success, for some months now.

Lopez netted 19 goals last term in all competitions, helping Atletico to the Europa League title in his first season at the club. Due to a limited involvement in the first team the Spanish international has scored just one La Liga goal in the current campaign.
2. Fernando Llorente (Athletic Bilbao)

Another Spanish forward target and perhaps another player Wenger can get ‘on the cheap’.
Llorente has almost certainly outgrown Athletic Bilbao and probably should have looked to leave San Mames in the summer, especially after team-mate Javi Martinez left for Bayern Munich, and the 6ft 6in forward is now treading water waiting for the season to come to an end.

Boss Marcelo Bielsa has left the consistent forward out of his first team a fair bit this season, seemingly as punishment for not agreeing a new deal, leaving the talented Spanish international free to leave the club out of pocket as he completes a free transfer move in the summer.

Llorente scored 29 goals in all competitions last term and was the leading Spanish scorer in La Liga last term.

3. Demba Ba (Newcastle United)

Newcastle United man looks set to leave the Magpies sooner rather than later as St James’ Park boss Alan Pardew grows exasperated with the Senegal international’s situation.
With a £7.5m release clause hanging over his head and a good run of form under his belt the former Hoffenheim and West Ham man could be the ideal man to boost Arsenal’s striking options.

Wenger may be keen on bringing in the 27 year old forward given Ba’s proven Premier League pedigree and the brace he struck at the Emirates last month will certainly play a part in the Frenchman’s thoughts.

4. Wilfried Zaha (Crystal Palace)

The young England international features prominently in Arsenal wish list.

Zaha would indeed be a very Arsene Wenger-style signing and the Gunners boss has of course brought in the likes of Aaron Ramsey, Theo Walcott, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Carl Jenkinson from the English ‘lower leagues’.

The Selhurst Park winger has been hotly tipped to leave his Championship and the England call-up he received earlier this year would perhaps spark a move for the 20 year old in the January transfer window.

Perhaps any potential deal would see Zaha remain at Crystal Palace for the remainder of the season as the South London side look to secure a move to the Premier League, a deal that boss Ian Holloway may be open to.

Zaha has already racked up over 100 appearances for Crystal Palace and appears ready to make the step up and perhaps the realization that Theo Walcott can indeed fill a striking spot would leave Wenger open to a new wide attacker signing in January.
