UHURU KENYATTA is lying to WILLIAM RUTO and the KALENJINS

UHURU KENYATTA is lying to WILLIAM RUTO and the KALENJINS

By Samuel Omwenga

There are those moments that occur in history where from time to time people ask whether one remembers where they were and they often do.
Many, for example, who were of age would remember where they were when they had that Mzee Jomo Kenyatta had died. Others can remember vividly other historic moments such as the assassination of the various political figures like Tom Mboya, JM Kariuki and even more recently Robert Ouko.
So shocking was the reporting from soon after the polls closed last Monday showing that Uhuru was leading Raila in the tally, many who saw that could not believe and likely would never forget those early moments of the reporting.
Within a short period of time, however, those who astutely follow these things immediately recognized there was something amiss.
That something amiss is what Raila and Cord now know and are prepared to make the case before the Supreme Court that there was massive rigging taking place right before our eyes at the obviously compromised and incompetent IEBC.
Needless to say, the petition to be filed by Raila and Cord is historic and unprecedented; it’ll also define our country’s future regardless of the outcome.
Based on what is known, including this writer being privy to several private exit poll surveys that show neither candidate garnered the constitutionally required threshold of 50%+1 to be sworn as president, there cannot but only be one outcome from the Supreme Court regarding this matter and that’s simply ordering a run-off election between Raila and Uhuru.
This is the only outcome that will save the country. But, the question remains, how did we get here?
How is it that an ICC indictee who has as his running mate yet another ICC indictee be so close in polling seeking the presidency to someone like Raila, our country’s Prime Minister and one with decades of proven leadership ability and sacrifice?
The answer is very simple: Uhuru has pulled wool over everyone, especially the Kalenjin while playing the tribal card to the maximum and hopes to keep it that way to the day he dreams to be sworn as president.
It must be noted when saying Uhuru is doing A or B, what is really meant here is those behind Uhuru’s quest for the presidency—and there is a deep network of old hands involved in this—they are the ones primarily pulling the strings here.
When Uhuru said the devil made him renounce his deal with Mudavadi, he was referring to this network of old hands now managing his campaign.
At the time they leaned heavy on him to give up his quest in favor of Mudavadi, even they were convinced there was no way they could pull off an Uhuru presidency under the current circumstances he finds himself as an ICC indictee facing serious crimes against humanity.
Uhuru, being no easy pushover and likely prodded by his other advisers must have had second thoughts and the team decided there and then there must be a way they can put Uhuru in State House.
It’s this writer’s belief that it was from that point on that everyone was resigned to the fact the team—divided as it was before—must come together and concoct a plan to get this impossibility a reality, namely, putting Uhuru in State House as president.
It remains to be seen what evidence Raila and Cord will present in court as to the massive rigging they say they know happened leading to the bogus results the obviously compromised IEBC announced last Saturday.
What anecdotal evidence there is out there, however, already suggests notwithstanding the massive rigging Raila and Cord know happened, Uhuru actually did perform better than many had anticipated.
This is because as noted above, Uhuru masterfully pulled wool over everyone’s face and presented himself as some innocent victim of PEV himself “they were finishing him” for merely being a good member and doing what was right for his community.
Nearly everyone from Uhuru’s backyard bought that false argument. That’s not surprising as it was an easy case to make to a receptive audience.
What is surprising and - again, there is anecdotal evidence - Uhuru actually made this case to greater success than anticipated, is Uhuru selling the idea to the Kalenjin that Raila is an evil person who took their son and him to the Hague while lying that he is their savior when it comes to resolving the historic injustices related to land in the Rift Valley.
How did Uhuru manage this? Simple; by recruiting William Ruto and making sure he had enough cash to make the case for him.
It remains to be seen whether such a deal will ultimately work. But, going by what we know already about Uhuru, keeping promises even when reduced to writing is not something he’s fond of.
Much as Uhuru discarded the MOU with Mudavadi, so too will he discard any deal he has made with the Kalenjin in general and Ruto in particular. Indeed, Uhuru need not look further than his own father who used and dumped Jaramogi when it was convenient to do so.
When it came to his turn, Kibaki shred to pieces his MOU with Raila after the 2002 elections, setting in motion events which have still to conclude.
It’ll be Uhuru’s turn to shred any MOU with Ruto and by this history, one has to be in absolute total denial not to believe or see it coming.
Not long ago, when the ICC prosecutor who replaced Ocampo, Ms Fatou Bensouda basically admitted to the ICC Trial Chamber that she did not have a case against Muthaura, Uhuru was all grins everywhere he went telling the crowds much as Muthaura’s case was headed to the pit so was his.
Muthaura’s case has now been officially dropped and it takes no rocket scientist to conclude sooner than later, Uhuru’s case could be dropped along the same basis as Muthaura’s was.
In the irony of ironies, this will leave none other than William Samoei Ruto and Joshua Sang as the only suspects to face the music at the ICC.
Either way, Ruto is a sitting duck in a Uhuru government and so too are the Kalenjin being taken for a ride by Uhuru who has effectively pulled the wool over their eyes.
What Kenya needs at this time and stage in our history is an all-inclusive president who can address the needs that affect all communities, not their selfish needs or only those of the communities they belong or more specifically the interests of those from their communities behind their quest for the presidency. That’s the Kenya we want and soon hope to get one.
